Zero health Care Worker deaths

Project Goal:

The Zero Health Care Worker Deaths initiative aims to eliminate preventable infections among healthcare workers by strengthening Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) across vulnerable healthcare facilities. The project also aims to reduce nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which remain critical public health challenges in our region.

What We’re Doing

Value Health Africa (VAHA) is building IPC capacity through:

🧑‍⚕️ Training health personnel on standard IPC protocols
🏥 Establishing functional IPC committees in each facility
📦 Providing essential IPC materials and technical support
📊 Monitoring and evaluating IPC compliance regularly

Our Impact So Far

7 Health Facilities Empowered in the South West Region

  • Each with a fully operational IPC committee
  • Staff trained and actively implementing IPC best practices
  • Significant reduction in reported staff infections within the first 6 months

Success Stories

Limbe Regional Hospital – A Model of IPC Excellence
"Before the training, we lacked clear procedures and coordination around infection control. Now, thanks to VAHA, we have a dedicated IPC committee that meets weekly, and we’ve seen a 60% drop in staff sick leave due to infections."

Buea District Hospital – Staff-Led Solutions
"The training empowered our nurses and cleaners to speak up and implement simple, yet powerful hygiene routines. Today, our wards are safer for both patients and workers."

Our Target

In the next 5 years, VAHA will expand the Zero Health Care Worker Deaths initiative to 1,000 health facilities nationwide, prioritizing vulnerable and underserved regions. Together, we’re building a safer, more resilient health system — for patients and providers alike.
